Historical Timeline Of The Quail Springs Church of Christ Oklahoma City |
In December of 1991 the congregation started having two services on Sunday morning,
one traditional and one contemporary with a worship team. The traditional service met
at 8:15 a.m. in the chapel and the contemporary service met in the auditorium at
10:25. The first week about 150 attended the traditional service but thirty families
announced that they were leaving. Less than a hundred attended the traditional service
by the fall of 1992.
Mark Henderson comments, "Soon, the attendance in that service began to dwindle as
people left to attend congregations with a commitment to the traditional worship style
and more traditional doctrinal positions." ... "During the first two years after the change,
the congregation lost 250 to 275 members, including the top five contributors to the church
budget, during a time of great financial stress."*
