In 1989 an outside consulting firm was hired to conduct a fund-raising campaign called "On the Edge of Greatness." They sought capital gifts and pledges over a three year period to reduce indebtedness. The campaign raised about $1.6 million through the end of the program in 1992. The indebtedness was so great, however, that this did little to reduce the financial problem. Since the members had understood that the campaign would solve the problem, many were angry and disillusioned with the leadership.*
