|Historical Timeline Of
The Quail Springs Church of Christ
In 1981 the elders appointed Ronnie White as "Chief of Staff" and gave him responsibility for hiring, oversight and termination of the ministry staff.
In the New Testament, elders were both shepherds and overseers of the flock (Acts 20:28). A preacher's job is to preach the gospel: "Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching" (2 Timothy 4:2). Elders must fulfill their own responsibility to oversee the flock. They cannot hire someone else to oversee the flock for them.
As you read this history you will notice that various conflicts arose between the "Chief of Staff" (later called the "Senior Minister") and the elders because of this unscriptural arrangement and their having different ideas about what their roles should be.
